A very common mistake affiliates make is their lack of knowledge concerning principles involved in their business. Look at other affiliate websites, see what works for them. Study up on optimizing your website if you can’t afford a seo company to do it for you, learn about traffic, links and search engines - learn your trade.
Another error new affiliates make is stuffing their sites with banners that do not provide enough information about the product at hand. Always try to provide good content hand-in-hand with such banners. It is important for customers to know and understand the features of a product if you wish to tempt them to buy, and good content will be able to help them.
Some affiliates make the mistake of promoting only one product or service, whilst this means you can go into lots of detail and promote it heavily it also means that your customers are not given enough options to choose from. There is the risk of getting fewer sales as compared to having more options for customers pick from. It is always better to give them a few better alternatives than to give them only one.
On the other hand the next biggest mistake new affiliate webmasters make is promoting too many products. As a result, customers are confused and end up beyond making a choice. It is perhaps good to give them only the best choices with a couple of price options.

Web space is cheap these days and chances are you couldn’t use up your space if you tried, so make sure you use separate pages for each kind of product.
All in all, affiliates that are doomed to fail in this business are those who do not exert enough effort or try to understand the industry that they are in. Don’t be one of them!
