Affiliate Marketing Tip #3 - What To Choose ?
The Different Types of Affiliate Marketing
This article goes into more detail about the types of Internet affiliate marketing programs there are to choose from. What type of affiliate marketing will work best for you and your visitors? Are all affiliate marketing programs equal, what will make you more money? Are the benefits the same form program to program or are there affiliate marketing programs that work better than the others?
Your "Affiliate Marketing Type" questions will be answered here.
As stated in previous articles there is no one “best” affiliate program, but there are actually different kinds of affiliate marketing so take a tip from me and take the time to decide what one would suit your online business best.
Pay Per Click or “PPC”
PPC is the one of the most popular type of affiliate marketing for affiliates with small websites, and would probably be one of the easiest ways for them to earn money if they have good traffic (visitors). With Pay Per Click affiliate marketing, the merchant pays the affiliate whenever a visitor is referred to their site by clicking through the merchant's banner advertising or text ads. The affiliate gets paid a certain amount even if the visitor they referred does not buy the merchant's products or services when they visit the site. PPC affiliate program payments are usually small though, usually not exceeding a dollar for every click. This does make it an excellent program for a site that has a lot of traffic though.
Pay Per Performance or "PPP"
PPP affiliate marketing is the most popular with the product or services merchant and is also the highest paying type for the Internet affiliate. With this form of affiliate program, the merchant only pays the affiliate whenever the visitor they have referred buys goods or services from the merchant's site or when the visitor becomes a lead. This means a lot of savings for the merchant as they only pay when they make money; if their product or service doesn’t sell it doesn’t cost them anything.
Because your visitor has become a paying customer the payment for the affiliate marketer is much higher. Commissions in PPP affiliate marketing usually comes in the range of 15% to 20% of the actual product sales amount, but some businesses, especially those who market digital products can pay up to 75%!
Payment amount depends on the sale price of the item so one payment from a single item or service can earn an affiliate marketer anywhere from pocket change to thousands of dollars.
Pay Per Performance affiliate marketing can be further split into two types: Pay Per Lead (PPL) and Pay Per Sale (PPS)
Pay Per Lead or "PPL" With Pay Per Lead affiliate marketing, the affiliate earns money whenever the visitor he referred to the merchant's site fills up an application form or any similar form related to the business of the company. Payment is a fixed fee.
Pay Per Sale or "PPS" With Pay Per Sale affiliate marketing, the affiliate is paid a certain fee when the visitor you sent to the merchant's website buys something. Affiliates are usually most often paid on a commission for sale basis, although there are some merchants who pay a fixed fee rather than a percentage.
Residual Income Affiliate Marketing With residual income affiliate marketing, the affiliate gets paid for every customer he has referred to the merchant's site every time they return and buy. With some programs it can be for days, a month or a year, others give you payment for sales for the life of that customer.
Tier Affiliate Marketing Single-Tier, Two-Tier, and Multi-Tier Affiliate Marketing
In a single-tier affiliate marketing program, the affiliates are only paid based on the direct sales they referred to the merchant. All the above affiliate marketing types (i.e. PPS - PPL - PPC) are single-tier.
In two-tier affiliate marketing programs, the affiliate also gets paid on every sale referred by other affiliate marketers who joined the affiliate program through their recommendation.
Multi-tier affiliate marketing works the same way as two-tier affiliate marketing programs, although in this system the affiliate gets additional commission webmasters who sign up below the webmaster who joined the affiliate program through their recommendation for many levels
